Day 5 Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic

Bill and I last night at Prego. The Italian restaurant on board

Day 4 Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Today we were in Santa Domingo in the Dominican Republic. We had a great tour called "Dominican Feast and Fiesta".
We arrived in the UNESCO- listed Zona Colonial and walked through the Don Diego Gate to Alcazar de Colon. This dates back to 1510 and is the oldest Viceregal residence in Americas. It was built by under Diego Colon the son of Christopher Columbus .

After an extensive tour we walked across the street to a restaurant where we indulged in a wonderful welcome drink. Rum and fruit juice of some kind yummy.  They then put on a great show for us dressed and dancing in authentic clothes.  We watched the cigar maker roll cigars and Bill of course bought a box.  We then had a typical Dominican lunch. Roast pork, chicken, plantains eggplant and sweet rice. I did not care for the eggplant or the plantains but the chicken and  pork were delicious.  After lunch we had a mask making demonstration some had dessert. Did I mention there was an open bar I had water Bill had diet coke, but everyone was commenting how good the Pilsner beer was.

After this the dancers came out in their third outfit and came and

and took people up to dance.  Yes I was pulled up and I had a blast 1 2. 1 2. Bill had escaped to the men's room I think it was planned!

Unfortunately when we arrived there was a parade of soldiers marching and singing and I took their picture.  It reminded of "The In-Laws.  Then my camera would not come on.  Our dear friend Pat has graciously offered to share her pictures with me.
